Evaluation - Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback ?

Audience feedback has been very beneficial in constructing and producing my music video, digipak and poster. Most of the feedback received was from the screenings I did to my media class as they are my potential target audience/market of my artist. For the music video they were pleased with the seaside shots as this made the music video look and feel more professional. In addition, they also responded positively to the editing and video transitions , that were used in the music video . I also decided to desaturate the whole music video to reflect the theme of the song and also slowed that paste of some of the footage to highlight and show the artists emotions and feelings. I'm very pleased that the audience also noticed these elements in the music video, as this shows that I was working in the right direction. Although, there was some positive feedback, there was also constructive criticism. My sample audience commented on the home videos and jpeg images that were added in to the music video. They suggested that I should use a variety of videos as there were some that were used too much and to reduce the time of the jpeg images. Resulting in me changing and changing the home videos and jpeg images so that the audience will be more engaged with music video. Furthermore, they also mentioned the lip syncing and the timing of some shots. They noticed that in some shots that the artists lip syncing was not in time with the song , which made them disconnect with the music video and they could also not understand what she was saying. I decided to refill the scenes where the artist is singing the chorus to have a variety of performance shots, so that the audience will be engage and the music video to be more appealing to anyone who views it.

Moving forward, my digipak and poster received excellent feedback which I was very thrilled with.  From the feedback received from class screenings they felt that photos reflected the RnB music genre and went in line with its codes and conventions. In addition, they also likes the typography used as it is clear and stands out which cathodes peoples attention. Lastly, they also loved how I kept a constant theme with the didfipak and poster as this helped them to identify my artist.

Feedback

The feedback received from my final music video was very positive as everyone saw a huge improvement from my 2nd draft. Doing the reshoot at the strand and adding the shot of her taking and burning her ex boyfriend clothes made the video much stronger and more appealing to an audience. However, they did mentioned that the shots of the images were too long which I agree with.

Narrative ( Changed )

After showing my 2nd draft to Shaun and Sinead they thought that narrative was to extreme and did not work well with my chosen genre. So I have to decided to make a few changes to the narrative of the music video.

New Narrative- Janelle reflects back on the good times she had with her and boyfriend as she finds out he cheats on her. When learnt of his behaviour she spies on him and the girl who is cheating on her with. She gets angry and grabs all his clothes and burns them and photo frame of them together. Then she releases that all she he has to love is herself hence to song being titled "Me Myself And I". Near the end of the video the home footage of her and boyfriend is layered with the footage of the burning clothes showing that the relationship has come to end and all she has is "Me Myself And I".

2nd Screening Feedback

Today I screened the second draft of my music video to Shaun and Sinead. They were pleased with the progression that has been made from the 1st draft. However, there are some changes that I will need to make. Firstly, they felt that I should get rid of the Bad TV effect as they could not see footage clearly, so I will be removing the video filter. Furthermore Sinead suggested that I should remove the police car footage and remove all the images of the dead body and knives etc. Shaun also mentioned that there was not enough performance footage of the artists, so I will need to add more footage of her singing to the song. In addition to this, Sinead also said the narrative was not well planned as the video started with the artists plotting to kill her boyfriend then scenes of them happy. We discussed on how we can change this, we concluded that it will start with a close up of the artist , then a scene of her walking on the beach then the footages of her and her boyfriend . Then her finding out that he has cheated. Instead of her killing him , Sinead suggested that I should shoot a scene of her going to her boyfriend room and taking all his clothes and burning them instead of her killing him. Overall, they where pleased with the quality of the footage from the second shoot. This feedback has been very helpful and I will use it to make changes to my music video.

2nd Screening / Music Video 2nd Draft

This is the 2nd draft of my music video . I not quite happy with it yet, but it is an big improvement from my 1st draft.

Editing

Today I showed my 2nd draft to Sinead, she really like the footage of Jangle singing in front of the projector and suggested that I should more of these shots near the end of the music video. I went through the shots of Janelle's projector performance and notice that menu bar of the computer was showing on her on chest which was really annoying as the shots were really good. So I decided to enlarge the clip and change it to a closeup of her face which worked well and you could still see the projector images on her.

Editing

After the feedback from presenting my 2nd draft of my music video , I went out and filmed Janelle in a different location which was the Strand in Gillingham. I went through all the footage from the shoot and selected the ones I liked and remove the ones that I thought that didn't work well. i was very pleased with the outcome of the shots especially, the shots where Jangle is walking by the sea, which really went well with the theme of the song. When editing on FinalCutPro I decided that the whole music video will be in black and white ( desaturated) as I fell it works better with the story and narrative of the song.
